Alumnus Kelcey McKinley graduated in 2016 and went to Tarleton State University. While in high school McKinley participated in theatre, improv and debate.
What have you done since high school?
“After high school, I went to Tarleton state and I graduate in 2 years exactly and I currently work for my dad since he owns his own construction company,” McKinley said. “I started college as a wildlife science major but when I came home for my first winter break my dad convinced me to work with him and way better pay, so I switched majors to business management and I plan on taking over his company one day”
What did you learn in high school that affected you later in life?
“I learned that not everything is that important, like all the drama of high school will have no effect on your future so just relax and take it easy you know,” McKinley said. “And also, dual credit is your best friend never take AP classes again.”
Explain your job now.
“My job right now is to understand my dad’s business, what we sell and how we conduct business daily, which includes managing money and going with our managers to look at our jobs,” McKinley said. “When I graduate college, I’ll become a saleswoman and after a few years of sales I’ll do operations, then owners and such.”
What are your plans for the future?
“Honestly my future plans are to be successful in this company, and just own my own home and to be married, not extravagant but I just want to be happy and independent,” McKinley said.
What is your advice to current high schoolers?
“Advice to current high schoolers: there is so much more out there that y’all haven’t even experienced, and I included, so I guess just realize that there is a whole world out there besides Mansfield, TX,” McKinley said. “And also, don’t be disruptive in public. We all know you’re in high school and you’re being annoying.”
