Alumni Brooke Smitherman graduated in 2011 and participated in Ready Set Tech, Automotive and Agriculture programs.
What have you done after high school?
“For the most part I worked in Daycare as a lead before moving to the Director of Tiny Tigers Childcare until August 2017,” Smitherman said. “Currently I am an Elementary School Librarian at RF Patterson Elementary in Kennedale.”
What made you want to do what you are doing now?
“I have always wanted to work with kids in any way,” Smitherman said. “For the last few years I worked in daycare where I became the director before getting offered a position with Kennedale ISD.”
Explain your job now, what you are doing, different aspects of your job.
“I am a Librarian With Kennedale ISD,” Smitherman said. “I manage the Library have classes in daily as well as help teachers in different grades throughout the day.”
What are your plans for the future?
“Move up in the school district possibly Kindergarten Teacher,” Smitherman said.
What is your advice to current high schoolers?
“Don’t wait until the end of your senior year to hop onto the job search train,” Smitherman said. “If I could go back in time, my resume would have been in the hands of potential employers by junior year. Make connections. I cannot stress this enough to high schoolers in any field of work. You need to build your skills in order to do a job. Get to know the people in your chosen career that interest you and can look up to. You’ll miss this.”
