Alumni Jacob Weaver graduated in 2012 and went to the University of Texas at Austin, getting a Bachelor’s degree in Government. While in high school, Weaver participated in academic decathlon and debate.
What have you done after high school?
“I attended the University of Texas at Austin and got a bachelor’s degree in Government,” Weaver said. “I then got a job at Oracle Corporation which is a software company and I am in tech sales.”
What made you want to do what you are doing now?
“I found out if you don’t go to Law School,” Weaver said. “Sales is another career path that can help you pay the bills and gives you invaluable experience going forward.”
What did you learn or experience in high school affect you in college and beyond?
“I learned it was okay to think differently,” Weaver said. “Teachers like Craig Rabalais, John Davis and Howard Ritz pushed my intellectual boundaries and it helped me become the successful person I am today.”
Explain your job now. What you are doing?
“I am a field sales rep here at Oracle,” Weaver said. “I manage account relationship with Small and Medium sized business in British Columbia, Canada. I try to sell them software technologies and cloud to help solve their business needs.”
What are your plans for the future?
“My plan is to be self-employed someday, or to teach, or to go into full time ministry,” Weaver said. “I still haven’t figured everything out and that’s okay.”
What is your advice to current high schoolers?
“College is way better than High School,” Weaver said. “Work hard now and Play Hard later.”
