Alumni Tyler Smith graduated in 2010 and went to TCC and the University of Texas at Arlington. While in high school Smith played baseball and football.
What made you want to do what you are doing now?
“Throughout high school I enjoyed helping fellow athletes if they were struggling getting concepts down on the football and in the classroom,” Smith said. “I found that my joy comes when I see others work hard and produce successful results.”
Explain your job now, what you are doing, different aspects of your job.
“This is my 3rd year as a Junior High History Teacher and Athletic Coach in Arlington ISD,” Smith said. “I enjoy teaching and coaching Football and Basketball at this level because I get to see student-athletes grow in many aspects of their lives.”
What are your plans for the future?
“One of my goals is to become an Athletic Administrator at the JH/High School level,” Smith said.
What is your advice to current high schoolers?
“This is a time to enjoy the friends that are around you and also focus on building your character,” Smith said. “You have to ask yourself, ‘How do I want this world to view me?’ It can be very difficult to stay focused on your dreams with the outside noise that high brings, however I tell my students and athletes all the time, ‘Focus today to be successful tomorrow.’”
