Alumnus Emily Burke graduated in 2015 and went to Tarrant County College. While in high school Burke participated in diving and athletic training.
What have you done after high school?
“Summer 2015, entered TCC Trinity River Campus for college,” Burke said. “Started first job at Dunkin Donuts but only worked there for the summer. January 2016 started working at Kroger and is still there today.”
What did you learn or experience in high school that has affected you in college and beyond?
“Freshman-junior year I took ASL classes at Ben barber and that made me want to take ASL classes in college,” Burke said.
Explain your job now.
“I work at the Matlock Kroger in Mansfield, working on my third year there now,” Burke said. “Started out in produce cutting fruit for about two months and then got moved upfront being a Courtesy Clerk, bagging and pushing carts, it also includes doing propane exchanges, putting back unwanted groceries, taking damages to the back, etc.”
What are your plans for the future?
“Get a aide position at the new MISD literacy center for the PPCD class that’s opening up in August 2018,” Burke said. “I Plan on and hope to teach and use my ASL with the kids.”
