Alumnus Brittany Bayless graduated in 2009 and went to Belhaven University and The University of Southern Mississippi. While in high school Bayless participated in Key Club, Spanish Club, Teen Leadership and Yearbook.
What have you done after high school?
“Upon my graduation from LHS in 2009, I attended Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi,” Bayless said. “I began as a dance major and eventually changed to pursue my Bachelors degree in social work. Upon graduation, I received a full ride to The University of Southern Mississippi where I received my Masters in Social Work. I completed internships in crisis intervention and medical social work and was offered a job at an inner city non profit in Jackson Mississippi upon my graduation in 2013. I eventually moved back to Texas and worked in business for a few years before getting married and recently moving to Augusta GA. My husband is also a Legacy alumni and currently serves in the military. I will be getting licensed to practice social work in Georgia in the near future. In the meantime I’m looking forward to enjoying the beach and mountains.”
What made you want to do what you are doing now?
“I have always loved people and especially love the way people interact and work together,” Bayless said. “I have loved learning about ways to draw out hope and healing for others which led me to the field of social work.”
How did what you learn or experience in high school affect you in college and beyond?
“I learned leadership skills from two of the greatest, Dena Schimming and Leland Mallett,” Bayless said.
What are your plans for the future?
“I would love to continue working in social work, travel, and eventually start a family,” Bayless said.
What is your advice to current high schoolers?
“Take more naps,” Bayless said. “Also, enjoy Tex mex because once you move out of Texas it’s a sad reality void of good queso.”
