Alumnus Sierra Henderson graduated in 2014 and went to the University of Houston- Victoria, and University of Texas at Arlington and is working toward a degree in Speech Communication. While in high school Henderson played soccer.
What have you done after high school?
“I went and played soccer at the University of Houston-Victoria,” Henderson said. “I then transferred to the University of Texas Arlington. I am currently studying Speech Communications. I am on track to graduate in the Spring. I also work at Creekwood Church as the Kids Coordinator. I work with the Kids ministry (K-5) and I also work with the Student ministry (6-12).”
What made you want to do what you are doing now?
“I am working while finishing college,” Henderson said. “I choose to do what I do now to have an impact on kids and students lives and lead them closer to God.”
What did you learn or experience in high school affect you in college and beyond?
“To treat people with kindness no matter how they treat you,” Henderson said.
Explain your job now.
“I help create and structure weekend and Wednesday services as well as plan events throughout the year,” Henderson said.
What are your plans for the future?
“Who knows what the future holds,” Henderson said. “Once I graduate I would love to take some time to travel and experience what all the world has to offer. Once I am ready to settle down I want to get a job as a high school teacher, I would love to teach Speech. Speech is a subject many students struggle with and often the struggle continues past their high school career. I want to help students become a stronger, more confident, public speaker, as well as have a positive influence on their life. It would be a dream to be able to teach at Mansfield Legacy High School one day.”
What is your advice to current high schoolers?
“Don’t go off campus for lunch because you will get in trouble…even if the Smith says she won’t turn you if you bring her a taco back from Taco Bell,” Henderson said.
If you have anything else you’d like to add, please do.
“I would like to add that Kathryn Pedroza is an awesome person,” Henderson said.
